Canada captain Alphonso Davies is expected to miss Friday's World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury suffered with Bayern Munich in May. Head coach Jesse Marsch says the left-back will feature later in the tournament and could return during the group stage, with the recovery plan being managed carefully alongside Bayern. Davies scored Canada's first-ever World Cup goal in 2022.
